Cruz, Jindal And Huckabee Openly Associate With Fanatic Pastor Who Suggests Gays Be Put To Death

While the political discourse of the past few days has been dominated by media scrutiny of questionable or debunked details from GOP front-runner Ben Carson’s inspiring backstory, or the perceived “War On Christmas” being waged by Starbucks and their new plain red coffee cups, three other Republican candidates – Ted Cruz, Bobby Jindal and Mike Huckabee, attended and spoke at a religious event in which the organizing pastor openly talked about putting gays to death.

The event, which is known as the “National Religious Liberties Conference,” was created and hosted by pastor and radio host Kevin Swanson, who has spoken out vehemently against homosexuals, including recent statements that parents would be better off letting their kids drown than allowing them to read “homosexual” Harry Potter novels, as well as reiterating that the Bible calls for death as a punishment for homosexuality.

If you think Swanson’s anti-gay rhetoric is being exaggerated or taken out of context, here is a clip of a Young Turks report, which features excerpts of him speaking at the event.  Just watching Swanson speak for a couple of minutes demonstrates exactly what a fucking lunatic he is.  Particularly nuts is his assertion that if his son ever got gay married, he would sit at the entrance to the church and smear cow manure all over himself.  He’s not joking, either:

And this is a clip from Youtube channel “Secular Talk,” which features more of Swanson’s insanity, including the suggestions of death for homosexuals:

Of course, I’m sure Ted Cruz, Bobby Jindal and Mike Huckabee will either claim to not have known about Swanson’s extreme views, say that he is taken out of context, or that just because they attended and spoke at the event, doesn’t mean they share his ideas.  Which is probably all bullshit.  Cruz, at the very least, was spoken to by Jake Tapper of CNN about Swanson’s views before the event, so he knew who he was associating himself with.  Swanson’s radio show is widely syndicated, so I’m sure it is well known where he stands on the issue of gays and cow shit.  And there’s no doubt as to how serious and rabid he is about his views.  It should also be noted that the three Republican presidential candidates did not just share the stage with Swanson – they also participated in Q&A sessions with him.

One might take comfort in knowing that these three GOP’ers are not close to the lead in current Republican polls, and Huckabee and Jindal are viewed by many as political footnotes, with extremely low polling numbers.  But it should frighten everyone to know that Cruz, as a Senator from Texas, and Jindal, the Governor of Louisiana, are currently involved with government, and that Huckabee was once the Governor of Arkansas.  The fact that anyone seeking the highest office in the United States would not be afraid to openly associate with such a hate-monger is disturbing at the very least, and a sign of just how batshit crazy the GOP has become.

That Time When Megyn Kelly (Almost) Called Him Mike “F*ckabee” On Air

Bible-thumping, bigoted Republican candidate Mike Huckabee has been popping up in more news feeds as of late, by taking advantage of a photo-op with bigot Kim Davis, the Kentucky clerk who recently did a brief stint in jail for refusing to issue marriage licenses to gay couples.

It’s not surprising that Huckabee has aligned himself with Davis, as he has repeatedly asserted the Bible’s authority over our laws and institutions, and has stated that “God’s law” takes precedence over things like the Supreme Court.  However, Davis is not the first hypocritical asshat that Huckabee has rushed to support.  A couple of months back, he affirmed his support of the Duggar family as their infamous scandal broke, which involved the revelation that Josh Duggar (who had spent much of his time railing against how homosexuals are destroying family values) molested his sisters when he was a teenager, and the Duggars helped to cover it up.  You may also remember Huckabee’s creepy and 8th grade level joke about how when he was younger, he would have wished for the opportunity to say he was transgender, so that he could shower with girls.

All of these recent headlines from Huckabee bring about a pleasant reminder of the time when Fox News’ Megyn Kelly accidentally started to pronounce his name as “Fuckabee” on the air.  Enjoy.

Was it a Freudian slip?  Who knows.  But it’s hilarious, especially given the context of what a complete assclown Huckabee really is.  And it doesn’t cease being satisfying to watch.

Mike Huckabee Embarrasses Himself Again

Looks like we’ll have to make more room in the idiot box.  A clip has emerged of Mike Huckabee, the Republican presidential candidate who would presume to have “God’s blessing” to do battle against America’s “secular theocracy” if he were elected president, in which he jokes about the fact that he should have pretended to be transgender in high school, in order to get a peek at girls in the shower.

“I wish someone had told me when I was in high school, that I could have felt like a woman when it came time to take showers in P.E. – I’m pretty sure I would have found my feminine side and said ‘coach, I think I’ll shower with the girls today'”

Get it?  See, because he would only be pretending to be a girl, and that way he could look at the other girls nekkid!

It’s not so much the inherent transphobia of the joke that bothers me.  Which it is – in that it implies that transgender people are really just plotting perverts who only want to catch a glimpse of others without their clothes on or using the restroom.

Nope, what gets me about it is how completely lame it is.  It’s the type of humor you would expect from an 8th grade boy, and this is coming from someone who wants to be the next president of the United States.  Instead of having a serious discussion about gender identity, and the personal and societal challenges faced by people who internally feel like a gender that is different from what is perceptible from the outside, Huckabee and right-wingers of his ilk reduce those issues to an adolescent punchline.

It’s not surprising in the least, however, as it is just the latest in a long string of inane statements that have come from the former Arkansas Governor.  This is also the man who has said that women who use birth control under Obamacare are people who “can’t control their libido.”  He also recently stated that the next American president wouldn’t have to follow the rule of the Supreme Court if it rules that gay marriage is a constitutional right, since after all, the Supreme Court isn’t the “Supreme Being.”
