Lucas Oil co-founder Charlotte Lucas recently took to Facebook to rant about those pesky minorities and how they are making everyone do things their way in America these days.
You know, minorities like atheists and Muslims and various other non-majority people, who clearly dictate government policy in the United States. Might as well throw gays and lesbians in there too, since last time I checked, they were minorities as well. It’s just not fair, the advantages they get!
Apparently it’s time for the majority in the U.S. to assert its dominance once again. Never mind the fact that the United States government is supposed to be set up so that individual rights don’t get trampled by majority rule. According to Mrs. Lucas, it’s time for the oppressed majority to take the power back!
She later apologized (kind of) and said that her comments don’t reflect her personal views, and that she was very upset when she wrote that post. I don’t know…It’s a pretty thorough and coherent statement that she made. Sounds pretty convincing of where she is coming from. As one of those minorities she speaks of, I won’t exactly be rushing out to buy any of her company’s products anytime soon.
According to a study by the Economic Policy Institute, raising the federal minimum wage from its current level of $7.25 an hour to $10.10 would save the government (taxpayers) approximately $7.6 billion a year for assistance programs such as SNAP, Medicaid, housing and cash assistance, and WIC.
Instead, people who currently make minimum wage, which are 88% adult (contrary to right-wing myths) and over the age of 20, fall below the federal poverty line if they have only one child. Of all of the people who rely on the government to get by, half of them make less than $10.10 an hour.
The Minimum Wage Act of 2014 would raise the current minimum wage to $10.10 an hour, and would also tie the wage to the rate of inflation, to keep those wage earners from continuing to fall behind. Yet, it has been stalled in Congress by Republicans.
It only makes sense for working and middle-class Americans to support raising the minimum wage, because if it stagnates at current levels, the tax burden of filling in the gap will fall upon them anyway. Why not have corporations, who have been posting record profits, do more of their part, instead of allowing their workers to live in poverty or rely on government funds, which are paid for by taxpayers?
It’s time for America to get a raise. Let’s stop footing the bill for corporations.
While this may be true, unfortunately the GOP is still strong enough to do a hell of a lot of damage and obstruct progress. In order to increase their chances of being elected, they will resort to restricting voting rights and their tradition of pitting the middle-class against immigrants and minorities.
The Republican Party must re-invent itself if they ever want to have someone in the White House, though. Their base is dwindling slowly and their mindset is becoming outdated by the day.
So, in a supposed “gotcha” moment, I was provided a link to this video as proof that voter fraud is not largely just a right-wing myth, but a very real threat to our democracy in America. It is a supposed surveillance video that purports to show an incident of ballot-box stuffing during the August 26 Arizona primary election cycle, as described by A.J. LaFaro, who is the chairman of the Maricopa County Republican Party.
LaFaro described the person in question as a “thug” with no respect for our laws, and even went so far as to say he feared for his life at one point.
One look at the video, and one has to wonder, what exactly are we supposed to be seeing? How do we know what is really going on there? And how exactly would a voter ID law have prevented the supposed cheating? Is there anything really going on, or is this just more made-up crap, akin to the story about the supposed eye-socket injury that Darren Wilson allegedly suffered at the hands of Michael Brown, which was quickly debunked?
I Googled the story, and found it only to exist in circles of conservative websites and blogs, including The Blaze and a website called “Young Conservatives.” Now, if this were a legitimate case of voter fraud, something inside me thinks that the story would be bigger than that, wouldn’t it?
Oh, that’s right…The “liberal mainstream media” conspiracy suppresses this stuff. Even with such obvious smoking guns.
Hopefully my eyes will return to my their correct position after rolling so hard.
Being a douche, Donald Trump has weighed in about Ebola and President Obama on Twitter. And, boy is it douche-y. He explains that the President should personally visit and hug those who have been infected with Ebola.
Donald is apparently still mad that the President hasn’t placed flight restrictions on travel from West African countries hardest hit by Ebola. Even though, as experts have pointed out, doing so would make it more difficult to track people that might have the disease.
How about we trade a few cases of Ebola if we can ship this asshat out of the country for good? Just a thought.
